a combining form meaning “cutting, incision” of an organ, “excision” of an object, as specified by the initial element ( appendectomy; lithotomy ); also occurring in abstract nouns corresponding to adjectives ending in -tomous ( dichotomy ). Cf. -tome, tomo-, -tomous.
