electron, used with nouns or combining forms, principally in the names of electron tubes (
ignitron; klystron; magnetron) and of devices for accelerating subatomic particles (
cosmotron; cyclotron); also, more generally, in the names of any kind of chamber or apparatus used in experiments (
biotron).
