  1. a white to yellow star, as Canopus, Polaris, or Procyon, having a surface temperature between 6000 and 7500 K and an absorption spectrum in which the pair of ultraviolet lines of singly ionized calcium and the Balmer series of hydrogen are of about equal strength. Cf. spectral type.
