the plant family Scrophulariaceae, characterized by herbaceous plants and shrubs having alternate or opposite leaves, often showy two-lipped or irregular flowers, fruit in the form of a capsule or berry, and including the figwort, foxglove, Indian paintbrush, mullein, speedwell, and snapdragon.
