a lakelike body of water on the boundary between W Zaire and the SE People's Republic of the Congo, formed by the widening of the Zaire (Congo) River about 330 mi. (530 km) from its mouth. ab. 20 mi. (32 km) long; ab. 15 mi. (24 km) wide. Also called Stanley Pool.
