Pronunciation: (mon'ō-al"fu-bet'ik, mon"ō-), [key] Cryptography.
a system of substitution that uses only one cipher alphabet in a cryptogram so that each plaintext letter is always represented by the same cipher. Cf. polyalphabetic substitution.
