the plant family Myrtaceae, characterized by mostly tropical trees and shrubs having aromatic, simple, usually opposite leaves, clusters of flowers, and fruit in the form of a berry or capsule, and including allspice, clove, eucalyptus, guava, and myrtles of the genus Myrtus.
