Chem.
a clear, colorless to brownish, dense, oily, corrosive, water-miscible liquid, H₂SO₄, usually produced from sulfur dioxide: used chiefly in the manufacture of fertilizers, chemicals, explosives, and dyestuffs and in petroleum refining. Also called oil of vitriol.
