—n. Chem.
a water-insoluble, pleasant-smelling, colorless powder or white scales, C₁₂H₁₀, composed of two phenyl groups, from which benzidine dyes are derived: used chiefly as a heat-transfer agent and in organic synthesis. Also called diphenyl, phenylbenzene.
